In a speech that was supposed to be about inner cities and urban renewal geared toward the African American middle class, Donald Trump repeated popular lines from his rallies and offered no positive vision for communities of color… to a mostly white audience.

Trump brought out the same misleading statistics on African American youth unemployment, renewed his divisive rhetoric about illegal immigrants taking jobs from African Americans, and issued a commitment to increase police presence in communities he has never visited. Trump offered no explanation or apology for his racially insensitive comments on the Central Park 5 or birtherism. Further, Trump cannot erase 30 years of racially discriminatory practices and one of the most racially-charged campaigns for president in recent history in a small speech thirteen days from Election Day.
Trump simply can’t rebrand his message and call it “outreach” to the African American community. It’s beyond disrespectful. It’s disgusting.

Dr. Sheila Morse, as a tester with the Human Rights Commission, discovered that Trump Management in New York used racial profiling when renting apartments. An African American man was told there were no available apartments at a Trump property, but when Sheila (a white woman) inquired about the same rental, she was welcomed graciously. Morse’s experience is one of the housing discrimination cases involving Donald Trump and his father, Fred. As a result of cases like these, Trump Management was forced to train employees about their obligations under the Fair Housing Act.
