Washington, D.C.—Correct The Record President Brad Woodhouse released the following statement in advance of Donald Trump’s town hall on Hannity:
“Tonight, Donald Trump’s discussion with his good friend Sean Hannity, Don King and Pastor Darrell Scott on the issues facing the African American community is just another late, half-hearted attempt by Trump to woo suburban voters as he condescends to African Americans. Trump’s recent feeble attempts at ‘outreach’ to the African American community do not erase a decades-long career of making bigoted comments and discriminating against communities of color.
“From housing discrimination lawsuits, encouraging violence against Black Lives Matter protesters and leading the birther movement for years, the list of bigoted comments made by Trump goes on and on. Donald Trump has even stirred voter intimidation fears and supported voter ID laws that disproportionately discriminate against African Americans. Trump will reportedly say tonight that he would bring back stop and frisk–which was found to violate the promise of equal protection under the Constitution. No one will be fooled by tonight’s town hall. To answer Trump’s repeated question to communities of color, ‘what do you have to lose?’ the response is simple: progress.”
