Yesterday, Donald Trump gave a “major policy” speech on national security in response to the tragic shooting in Orlando. As one columnist summarized, he “exploit[ed] Orlando’s tragedy to smear Muslims and Obama.” Editorial boards called his response an “assault on our values,” said he reached “a new low” by smearing President Obama and that his reaction “plays into ISIS’s hands.” One article criticized “Donald Trump’s idea of what ‘American’ means” as “un-American” itself.
Republicans were “fretting anew” after the latest “be afraid” message from Trump, and fact checkers were busy Monday afternoon trying to break down all of the lies in Trump’s speech.
