Bernie Sanders now claims he opposed the 2007 immigration reform bill because he was worried that the conditions for guest-workers would be “akin to slavery.” But that is not what he said at the time. In 2007, Bernie Sanders regurgitated a Republican talking point to justify his vote against comprehensive immigration reform.
Sanders told Lou Dobbs, “I don’t know why we need millions of people to be coming into this country as guest workers who will work for lower wages than American workers and drive wages down even lower than they are right now.”
Bernie was wrong on immigration reform, plain and simple.
