In a piece of spin moving so fast even Republicans seem to have lost track of it, the national GOP put out a statement today critical of the grassroots support swelling around Hillary Clinton as “infighting,” apparently confusing Clinton’s historic support with the fractured Republican-Tea-Party base Wisconsin Governor and potential 2016 candidate Scott Walker waded into over the weekend.
Conflict and infighting seem like more accurate descriptions of Republican Party; just ask Scott Walker.

REALITY: These activities represent an unprecedented, unified front – particularly for Democrats. Going into 2016, the energy and excitement around a possible Hillary Clinton candidacy and presidency have unified the Party to a degree unrealized in modern political history. The reality that these efforts are forming so early and so intensely is proof Democrats will not concede an inch of the battlefield to the other side or their campaigns of misinformation and untruths. Individuals and organizations are coming together of their own initiative to support Secretary Clinton and moving our country forward.

REALITY: Governor Scott Walker (R-WI), a 2016 contender for the GOP ticket, over the weekend waded into the historic civil war within the GOP base, centered on Republican Tea Party factions. This is particularly awkward for Walker, who only survived gubernatorial recall attempts in part because of Tea Party activism.
“Walker, who survived a recall in 2012 largely due to the tea party, said Sunday that the tea party movement should target Democrats, not Republicans. … Walker offered his assessment in the wake of House Speaker John Boehner’s recent criticism of some conservative outside groups.” [Politico, 1/5/14]
