AT THE AMERICAN LEGION, WILL TRUMP APOLOGIZE FOR A YEAR OF INSULTS?
Over the past year, Donald Trump has shown a contempt for the American military that is both alarming and utterly disqualifying for anyone who wants to be our next Commander-in-Chief. He’s insulted Gold Star families. He’s disparaged Senator John McCain’s service in Vietnam. And he has lied about his own support for American veterans.
This morning, Trump will deliver an address at the American Legion in which he should apologize for these comments and his history of attacking American soldiers and veterans. The American military and everyone who has served our country in uniform deserve much, much better from their next president.
Below are five of the most egregious examples of Trump insulting and disparaging our men and women in uniform:

Attacking Gold Star parents Ghazala and Khizr Khan

Criticizing former POW Sen. John McCain for being “captured.” “He’s not a war hero. He is a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”

Saying former POW John McCain “has not done a good job for the vets.”

Accusing U.S. soldiers of stealing money in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Remember this, when we got out we should have taken the oil. I’ll never forget some of the pundits–most of them they don’t have the brains they were born with–they said, ‘they’re talking about a sovereign country.’ Iraq! Crooked as hell. How about bringing baskets of money – millions and millions of dollars – and handing it out? I wanna know, who are the soldiers that had that job? Because I think they’re living very well right now, whoever they may be.

Earlier this year, Trump was exposed by The Washington Post for reneging on a personal pledge to donate to a veterans organization. He only donated after being publicly shamed by the press.
