Tonight, Donald Trump was in the deep blue state of Washington because… outreach??
Trump once again delivered a canned speech trying to appeal to African-Americans and Latinos. Trump even claimed that the Democratic Party, which has been led for the past eight years by our country’s first African-American president, “is the party of slavery, the party of Jim Crow, the party of oppression.” It was a futile attempt to erase the fact that Trump’s bigoted rhetoric has drawn praise from white nationalists—and the endorsement of David Duke.
The divisive rhetoric didn’t end there. In a clear sign he was losing the crowd, Trump went on to read “The Snake”—a poem that Trump has repeatedly used to attack refugees and gin up bored audiences. Quick reminder: the author’s family has denounced Trump’s bigotry and called on him to stop using the poem at rallies.
The Evergreen State hasn’t voted Democratic since 1984… and it doesn’t look like that will change after tonight’s performance. At one point, the Donald asked “Is there any place better to be than a Trump rally?”
Our answer: a resounding yes.
