With his campaign (once again) in crisis, Donald Trump delivered a meandering, incoherent, condescending and, yes, low energy speech that was supposedly about America’s energy future. After bizarrely touting his support for coal (“we have a very small planet compared to the universe”), Trump talked about the only thing that really interests him: himself. He discussed the media coverage he has received, his fundraising numbers, his wineries and his self-proclaimed affection for construction workers. At one point, you could even spot one audience member behind Trump checking his phone. Yawn.
The entire event stood in stark contrast to Hillary Clinton’s rally in Des Moines, where she passionately laid out her detailed plans to create jobs by investing in clean energy and modernizing our electric grid.
