Tonight in New Mexico, Donald Trump claimed that as president, Hillary Clinton will let 650 million people into the United States and “triple the size of our country in one week.”
It’s one of the most outrageous and outlandish whoppers of Trump’s campaign of lies so far—and ironically comes as The Washington Post reported that his increasingly embattled campaign “is redirecting his attention to traditionally Democratic states.” If tonight’s event is any indication, that effort is doomed to fail. Trump is simply doubling down on his worst instincts, spreading bigoted conspiracy theories and demonizing refugees and immigrants across even more states.

Giuliani said, ‘Hillary Clinton is for open borders.’ Clinton supported a 2013 bill that would have invested billions in border security in addition to a path to citizenship. As a presidential candidate she has called for securing the border and targeting deportation to criminals and those who pose security threats. While her plan would make it easier for many undocumented immigrants to avoid deportation, that’s not the same as allowing a free-for-all at the border and ending enforcement.
