Benghazi Lies and Chachi Unable to Unite Divided Republicans
Yesterday, the Republican Party’s months-long civil war came to Cleveland. For the first time in a generation, a major political party waged a truly chaotic floor fight on national television. Delegates screamed over each other, Senator Mike Lee denounced party leaders on live TV and the Colorado delegation even walked out. But when they weren’t fighting each other, the cameras revealed a party that is increasingly running on fumes. Republicans desperately peddled incoherent conspiracies about the Benghazi tragedy. GOP “rising star” Joni Ernst was forced to address a nearly empty convention hall. Multiple speakers—including former Texas Governor Rick Perry—refused to even say Trump’s name. And with many GOP luminaries skipping Cleveland, the GOP was forced to rally around Chachi (and/or Bob Loblaw), former underwear model Antonio Sabato Jr. and one of the most extreme platforms in recent history.
