ast night, American leaders extolled Hillary Clinton’s vision for our country and made a passionate, patriotic case against Donald Trump’s bigoted politics. President Obama offered a pointed rebuke to Trump’s authoritarianism, insisting that “we don’t look to be ruled” and that our country must “reject cynicism [and][/and] reject fear.” Vice President Biden strongly defended the tenacity and greatness of the American people, telling the delegates that “given a fair shot, given a fair chance, Americans have never, ever, ever, ever, let their country down.” And former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg got down to brass tax when he said in his speech endorsing Hillary: “Let’s elect a sane, competent person.”
It was a night filled with optimism, determination and pride in our country and fittingly ended with President Obama and Hillary standing together and embracing before the entire convention. As The New York Daily News’ Josh Greenman noted, the convention’s third night was the “antidote” to Trumpism.
