ATTACK: The profoundly American success and philanthropy of Bill and Hillary Clinton is being condemned by the RNC today with the launch of a new website.
THE POINT:
– The right wing needs a lesson on American values – Hillary Clinton has worked her entire life to ensure everyone has a chance at the American Dream and she has given back enormously to her community and country after achieving success herself.
– It’s not wrong to make money. What’s wrong is perpetuating a system in America in which only the rich get richer, while the working and middle class lose opportunities. Hillary Clinton has fought her entire life to advocate for a level playing field and to increase opportunity for all Americans.
– This is profoundly American, and this latest petty attack by the right wing only appears to be anti-American and anti-generosity.
– As Paul Waldman of the Washington Post wrote, “Unless Clinton’s rather sudden elevation into the ranks of the super-wealthy actually made her change her policy positions and what should would do as president — in other words, unless getting rich turned her into a Republican — there’s no reason to believe her wealth will have any serious impact at all.”
BOTTOM LINE: People know better. People know Hillary puts them first. Despite all the media attacks trying to paint Hillary Clinton as out of touch, Americans are not swayed.
– A recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Annenberg poll from June 26-28 asked whether Hillary Clinton can relate to and understand the problems of average citizens.
o Most Americans believe that Hillary Clinton can relate to and is in touch with average Americans. Fifty-five percent of Americans say that Hillary Clinton can relate to and understand the problems of average citizens.
– The Clintons have stayed true to themselves, stayed in touch with what is going on in America, and clung to their principles, giving back to charity and using their success to support noble causes.
– Between 2000 and 2007 alone, the Clintons donated over $10 million to charity. Hillary Clinton has, on multiple occasions, raised more money for charity in one night than most people do in a lifetime.
– Income opportunity has always been and will continue to be a cornerstone of Hillary Clinton’s vision for our country’s future.
o As Hillary Clinton said recently, the current “disparity makes people believe that they’re stuck. They no longer believe that things are going to get any better, no matter how hard they work. People have lost trust in each other and the political system and I think that’s very threatening to democracy.”
