Senator Sanders promised America that he would run a positive campaign, but after an “almost Trumpian” start to the week, the Sanders campaign threw that promise out the window.
Here’s a timeline of Sanders’ Bad Week:
Monday April 4, 2016: Bernie Sanders’ New York Daily News interview was “almost as damning as Trump’s with WaPo.” Sanders’ interview revealed his shortcomings on foreign policy and gun safety policy. During the interview, Sanders even “admitted he has not formulated any specific plans to break up the big banks or bring jobs back from overseas.”
Tuesday April 5, 2016: After Bernie Sanders was “feeling media heat” following the NYDN interview, the Sanders campaign deployed a “sexist new argument” against Secretary Clinton, accusing her of being destructive to the Democratic Party by being too ambitious.
Wednesday April 6, 2016: As more media reported on Senator Sanders’ “misfire” on guns, he refused to apologize to the Sandy Hook victims’ families for his “tone-deaf position” on gun manufacturer liability.
Wednesday April 6, 2016: At an evening rally, Bernie Sanders “[incorrectly claimed] that Clinton called him ‘not qualified’ for the presidency.” During that same rally, Bernie Sanders absurdly said, “I don’t believe that [Hillary Clinton] is qualified.”
Thursday April 7, 2016: Bernie Sanders doubled-down on the “incorrect” qualification attack against Secretary Clinton. And he continued to deny repeated calls from the families of gun violence victims to apologize for his gun stance.
Thursday April 7, 2016: Bernie Sanders’ Campaign Manager Jeff Weaver escalated the attacks by saying Hillary Clinton made a “deal with the devil” and blamed the former secretary of state for the rise of ISIS.
So much for running a positive campaign.
