Hillary Clinton on Tuesday outlined an ambitious $20 billion plan to cure one of the most devastating diseases of our generation within 10 years— describing Alzheimer’s not only as a condition that has taken a personal toll on too many American families but as a critical fiscal matter for the country that needs to be addressed.
The Democratic presidential front-runner, who was campaigning in Iowa, said her plan would provide $2 billion in guaranteed annual funds by closing tax loopholes to “prevent, effectively treat and make a cure possible.” That level is four times the current funding.

“As U.S. deaths from Alzheimer’s are exploding, Hillary Clinton wants to make curing the disease a major issue for the women and minority voters who are at a disproportionate risk of developing it.
In her last campaign speech Tuesday before the Christmas holiday, Clinton plans to call for a dramatic increase in federal spending to find a cure for the only cause of death ranked in America’s top 10 that cannot be cured, prevented or even slowed, the campaign told USA TODAY. The Democratic front-runner will propose spending $2 billion a year in an attempt to cure the degenerative brain disease by 2025, according to a campaign official who was not authorized to speak publicly ahead of the announcement.
It’s the first time a presidential candidate has made Alzheimer’s a major campaign issue, said Robert Egge, executive director of the Alzheimer’s Impact Movement, whose advocates are leaning on all 2016 campaigns to take up the issue. None of them has offered specific plans. Clinton’s proposal “makes this a national conversation,” he said.”

Clinton is proposing $2 billion worth of funding to find a cure
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is announcing a plan on Tuesday to invest $2 billion a year towards curing Alzheimer’s by 2025.
During a campaign stop on Tuesday, Clinton is expected to announce the plan which would mark a substantial increase in annual federal funding for the disease. Reuters reports Alzheimer’s research received $588 million in funding last year. The 2016 budget allocated $350 million more in funding toward the disease, according to the Alzheimer’s Association, a 60% increase in funding from 2015.
