While Jeb Bush and Donald Trump spent the past week defending their use of the term “anchor baby,” Hillary Clinton held a town hall in North Las Vegas where she spoke to Americans about criminal justice reform, gun violence and voting rights. She also unveiled her proposal to expand the ranks of AmeriCorps.

HILLARY HELD A TOWN HALL IN NORTH LAS VEGAS
Clinton spoke to Americans about our broken criminal justice system, as well as efforts to protect the right to vote and tackle gun violence.
- On tackling gun violence, Hillary Clinton said, “I am not afraid of this fight. I am not backing off from this fight. Because it has gone way too far in one direction and we need to get back to some balance.”
- When asked about stand-your-ground laws, Hillary Clinton said, “Nobody should want to create circumstances in which innocent, unarmed people are killed.”
- Discussing Republican efforts to suppress voting rights, Hillary Clinton said, “Don’t give them the satisfaction of not voting.”
HILLARY PROPOSED PLAN TO EXPAND THE RANKS OF AMERICORPS
Hillary Clinton laid out her plan to expand the ranks of AmeriCorps volunteers—putting national service at the heart of her New College Compact.
- Hillary’s bold initiative aims to expand the ranks of AmeriCorps from 75,000 to more than 250,000 members by 2017.
- Her plan also tackles college debt by increasing the education award that AmeriCorps members can use to pay for college and making the education awards tax-free.
Hillary’s support for AmeriCorps is nothing new. As she said in the Senate, “AmeriCorps works.” That is why she fought alongside America’s mayors and governors to protect AmeriCorps from budget cuts and called the House Republican’s obstruction of increased AmeriCorps funding “wrong for America.”
