Donald Trump’s history of objectifying and body-shaming women took center stage at last night’s presidential debate. Hillary Clinton reminded viewers of Trump’s demeaning comments about former Miss Universe pageant winner Alicia Machado, calling her “Miss Piggy” for gaining weight after her victory in 1996 and “Miss Housekeeping” for her Latina heritage.
Rather than apologizing during an interview on Fox and Friends this morning, Trump doubled-down on his offensive remarks saying, “She was the worst we ever had. She was a winner, and she gained a massive amount of weight, and we had a real problem. We had a real problem with her.”
We need a president who lifts up and respects America’s women and girls; one who makes them proud of what they see when they look in the mirror and inspires them to believe the person looking back may one day be president, too. That’s certainly not Donald Trump.
