Washington, D.C. – David Brock, founder of Correct the Record, today released the following statement in response to a report published on Sunday night by the Washington Free Beacon on the archived papers of the late Diane Blair, which were made available to the public in 2010.
“It’s clear now that the Republicans have nothing of substance to say about Secretary Clinton. That’s why they’re running a retro-channel, an endless feedback loop of dreck. The Republicans – including Rand Paul – do have a substantive record on issues of real concern to women that ought to be the subject of public debate.
“Not surprisingly, the Washington Free Beacon gets even the top-line of its story – the idea that the archive of Hillary Clinton’s friend portrays Hillary as ‘ruthless’ – wrong. The characterization is actually from a polling memo which also noted that people ‘admired the strength of the Arkansas first couple.’
“Everything else in the archive is old news. In fact, at least one reputable reporter, Carl Bernstein, says he had access to the archive for a 2007 book, and the archive documents have been publicly available since 2010. At the time, Clinton herself invited scholars to look at them.
“We also now know that the Republicans’ real candidate for 2016 is named Ken Starr. Bring it on.”
