David Brock, founder of Correct The Record, a project by American Bridge, released the following statement on today’s reports of excerpts from a new book by Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates.
“In his new book, Gates said of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that he ‘found her smart, idealistic but pragmatic, tough-minded, indefatigable, funny, a very valuable colleague, and a superb representative of the United States all over the world.’
“In the excerpts released thus far the former Secretary of Defense chose to be critical of virtually every official covered in his book with the exception of what the New York Times called ‘especially high praise for Mr. Obama’s former secretary of state, Hillary Rodham Clinton.’ Gates’s trust in her seems to be epitomized by the high praise he reserved for her.”
